Daytona International Speedway to Roll Out Next‑Generation LED Lighting

The upgrade, led by Musco and overseen by Ben Kennedy, promises brighter illumination, energy savings and a vibrant colour palette for fans and events.

A New Era of Illumination

Daytona International Speedway is set to replace its aging illumination with a cutting‑edge LED system that mirrors the sophistication seen at venues such as the Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi.

The initiative, which began in April, will blanket the entire 2.5‑mile oval, the grandstands and surrounding campus with modern LED fixtures supplied by Musco, the company that first lit the track back in 1998.

Energy Savings and Color Flexibility

Beyond simply brightening the racing surface, the new lighting promises to slash energy use by nearly half, a savings that aligns with the speedway’s sustainability goals. The system also features RGB accent lighting capable of producing more than 16.7 million colour combinations, allowing the track to host concerts, festivals and other events with dynamic visual displays.

NASCAR officials say the upgrade is designed to heighten the fan experience, making races more immersive and giving the sport a fresh visual identity as it looks ahead to the next decade.

Ben Kennedy, a senior executive overseeing the initiative, emphasized that the upgrade is the most significant lighting improvement since the $400 million Daytona Rising overhaul in 2016, underscoring the speedway’s commitment to innovation.

The installation is slated for completion by January of next year, just in time for the upcoming season, and will mark a milestone in the speedway’s ongoing effort to blend technology, entertainment and environmental responsibility.
