Maryland Field Hockey announced the hiring of Dean Schiller as an assistant coach, a move that underscores the program’s ambition to blend championship culture with global expertise. Schiller, who hung up his stick after a distinguished international career, will now help shape the next generation of Terps on the turf.
Schiller’s résumé reads like a world‑tour of high‑performance hockey. From 2022 through 2025 he represented the United States at every junior level, earning caps with the U‑16, U‑18 and U‑21 squads. His tenure culminated with a pivotal role in the 2026 indoor world cup in Nottingham, where his defensive acumen and tactical awareness were on full display.
After graduating from the University of Maryland in 2023, Schiller pursued postgraduate studies abroad and took a coaching position at the University of Durham in England. The experience honed his ability to translate elite‑level tactics into practical training drills, a skill set he is eager to bring back to College Park.
The decision to return was driven by more than professional curiosity. Schiller cited Maryland’s relentless pursuit of championships and his deep‑seated connection to the Terps community as the primary pull factors. "I want to be part of something that consistently wins," he said, "and I see a clear pathway to help the program reach that level."

Head coach Missy Meharg expressed enthusiasm about the addition, emphasizing Schiller’s blend of international exposure and technical know‑how.
