A Strategic Addition to the Huskies' Bench
The University of Washington announced that DeAndre Haynes will join Danny Sprinkle's coaching staff as an assistant, bringing a decade and a half of college basketball experience to the program. Haynes, a former Kent State point guard who once held the school's all‑time assist record, transitioned into coaching after his playing career and has since built a reputation as a skilled developer of playmakers.
Haynes most recently served as an assistant at Marquette, where he contributed to four consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances during Shaka Smart's early years. His departure from Marquette was handled quietly, with no formal announcement, after five seasons that saw the Golden Eagles consistently compete at the national level.
Sprinkle, who has been reshaping the Huskies' roster through the transfer portal, highlighted Haynes's blend of guard‑level insight and program‑building acumen as a key factor in the hire. The move comes as Washington works to fill a staff vacancy left by Jerry Hobbie, who left to accept an assistant position at TCU.
The Huskies are also bolstering their lineup with international talent. Australian guard Tristan Devers and Brazilian power forward Wini Silva‑Braga have both committed to the program, adding depth and versatility as the team looks to compete in the highly competitive Pac‑12 landscape.
A Busy Off‑Season for Washington Basketball
Beyond the coaching staff, Washington's roster reconstruction has been marked by a flurry of commitments from new players, signaling an aggressive push to return to contender status. The influx of fresh talent, combined with Haynes's strategic expertise, aims to restore the program's momentum after a period of rebuilding.
