Delano Thomas has been named an assistant coach at Stetson University, bringing more than two decades of coaching experience and a championship pedigree to the Hatters as they gear up for the upcoming 2026‑27 campaign.
Thomas previously guided Shawnee State University to a 31‑2 record and the NAIA National Championship in 2020‑21, a feat that earned him NAIA National Coach of the Year honors and cemented his reputation as a top strategist.
During his two‑year stint as head coach at Florida Memorial University, he compiled a 47‑15 overall record, mentored four NAIA All‑Americans and helped shape 28 All‑Conference selections, showcasing his ability to develop talent at the highest collegiate level.
From the Court to the Classroom
Before joining Stetson, Thomas spent the 2025‑26 season as Assistant Director of Player Development at High Point University, where he worked closely with former coach Donnie Jones and refined his player‑development philosophy.
His playing career spanned nine professional seasons across Europe, South America and Asia, highlighted by a Norwegian BLNO Championship in 2008‑09, giving him a global perspective that enriches his coaching approach.
Now based in DeLand, Florida, Thomas will collaborate with the Stetson staff to shape a competitive roster, drawing on his championship experience and international insight to drive the program forward.
