Leadership Appointment
Tennessee’s women’s basketball program announced a significant leadership addition as Kim Caldwell named Denise Jilka the executive director of basketball operations ahead of the 2026‑27 season.
Jilka, who has spent nearly a decade and a half at the University of Tennessee, brings a blend of academic coordination, communications expertise, and deep familiarity with the Lady Vols’ ecosystem.
In her new capacity she will collaborate closely with senior associate athletic director Maggie Stanley, overseeing program logistics, academic support and travel arrangements, a partnership Caldwell describes as a natural extension of Jilka’s existing contributions.
Caldwell praised Jilka’s work ethic, organizational acumen and ability to connect with student‑athletes and staff, emphasizing that her intimate knowledge of the program’s culture will help steer the team forward.
Background and Vision
Jilka’s athletic pedigree as a former softball standout at Bradley University adds a unique perspective to the basketball staff, having earned degrees in psychology, sport and performance psychology, and sport management.
Her professional journey includes roles in academics and communication that have reinforced her capacity to manage complex operational tasks while fostering a supportive environment for athletes.
Staff Reinforcements
The reshaping of the coaching staff also introduced new faces: Bill Ferrara and Isoken Uzamere joined veteran assistants Jenna Burdette, Angel Rizor and Lexie Barrier, while Brandon Miller was hired as the program’s director of video and strategy from NC State.
These additions signal a strategic push to bolster analytical capabilities, player development and overall operational efficiency as the Lady Vols aim to maintain their competitive edge in the SEC.
