Derek Daniels has stepped into the role of head football coach at Parkview, bringing with him a résumé that blends championship basketball experience with years of defensive coaching. His appointment signals a strategic shift for a program eager to capitalize on recent momentum.
A Coach With a Dual‑Sport Legacy
Before turning to football, Daniels enjoyed a standout playing career at Drury University, where he helped the Panthers capture an NCAA Division II national title in 2013. He later transferred to College of the Ozarks, earning NAIA All‑American honors for his performances on the court and further honing his competitive edge.
His transition to coaching began in the classroom, where he taught and mentored students while simultaneously gaining experience on the sidelines. Over the past three seasons he served as Parkview’s defensive coordinator, a period marked by a noticeable uptick in the team’s competitiveness under both his guidance and that of his predecessor, Cam Bruffett.
Daniels now inherits a youthful squad that lost 15 seniors to graduation, and he has identified two promising quarterbacks — Brock Brooks, a transfer from Kickapoo who excelled in 2025, and Marcus Grube, whose consistency has kept him in the starting conversation — as the focal points of a new run‑pass option offense.
Central to his philosophy are principles of discipline, accountability, toughness and effort. He believes that by instilling these values and giving the offense a versatile, option‑based scheme, the team can target a higher win total and attract more students to the program.
