Deron Rippey Jr. has been named the 2025‑26 New Jersey Boys Basketball Gatorade Player of the Year, a distinction that marks his second consecutive year receiving the honor. The award recognizes not only his statistical dominance but also his impact on the court and his contributions off it.
During the 2025‑26 campaign, Rippey guided Blair Academy to a 30‑2 record and a runner‑up finish at the National Prep Championships. He averaged 15.7 points, 6.3 assists, 5.3 rebounds and 2.0 steals per game, numbers that helped the team secure a top seed in the state tournament.
His performances earned him McDonald’s All‑American honors and a spot as a finalist for the Naismith Award, cementing his status as the nation’s top point guard and the premier player in New Jersey’s 2026 class.
Rippey’s commitment to Duke University was announced in early May, where he chose the Blue Devils over a host of other elite programs. Coaches at Duke highlighted his ability to thrive in demanding environments and predicted an early contribution to the ACC.
Beyond basketball, Rippey maintains an A‑minus GPA and is actively involved in community service, embodying the Gatorade Player of the Year ideal of excellence in scholarship and leadership.
