The 2026 campaign for the DeSales University women's field hockey team begins with high expectations after a preseason coaches poll placed them second in the MAC Freedom, trailing only the preseason favorite Stevens by a dozen points.
Last season the team finished 9‑10 overall, earned a third seed in the conference tournament and fell to Misericordia University in the semifinals, a narrow 1‑0 defeat that left the roster hungry for redemption.
Returning Talent
Among the standout returners are senior forward Stephanie Pallante, who led the squad with 7 goals and 3 assists for a total of 17 points, and midfielder Abigail Antipas, who started every game and contributed two goals and an assist.
Defensive anchor Alina Culver also returns, having started 18 of 19 games and recorded a team‑high two defensive saves, while playmaker Mia Carder dished out a team‑leading five assists.
Sierra Margut added depth by starting 17 games last season, further bolstering the offensive options.
Coaching Continuity
Head coach Cayla Andrews enters her third year at the helm, having guided DSU to back‑to‑back 9‑10 seasons and two consecutive postseason appearances, providing stability and a proven tactical approach.
The schedule opens with home matches against Ramapo College on September 2 and RPI on September 26, the latter serving as Homecoming, before the MAC Freedom slate kicks off on October 3 with a home game against FDU‑Florham.
With a blend of experienced returners, a steady coaching staff, and a favorable early schedule, the DeSales women's field hockey team looks to translate preseason optimism into a strong performance on the field.
