A New Era for Detroit Mercy Women's Basketball
Latifa Amzil has been elevated to the role of Graduate Assistant Coach and Director of Basketball Operations for the University of Detroit Mercy women’s program, a move that reflects her deep familiarity with the team and her proven organizational abilities.
Amzil, who previously starred as a player for the Titans, will now oversee day‑to‑day logistical matters as the squad prepares for the 2026‑27 season, handling everything from roster management to travel coordination.
Head Coach Kiefer Haffey highlighted Amzil’s positive spirit, maturity and the unique blend of on‑court insight and administrative skill she brings to the bench.
Joining her, Darius Cunningham III will serve as a Graduate Assistant focused on Digital Media, tasked with shaping the program’s online presence and storytelling initiatives.
Cunningham arrives after a stint as a social‑media intern at Michigan State University and freelance work producing branded content for the Minnesota Timberwolves, including pieces featuring star guard Anthony Edwards.
His collaboration with the digital‑media brand Flighthouse, which boasts 28 million followers on TikTok, underscores the growing intersection between collegiate athletics and viral content creation.
Both new assistants bring a blend of playing experience and modern communication expertise that Coach Haffey believes will help the Titans compete at a higher level in the coming season.
