The Detroit franchise of the Premier Women’s Hockey League is set to host its inaugural girls hockey camp in Traverse City, Michigan, from August 10 through August 13. The event marks the league’s first dedicated camp aimed at female players across a broad age spectrum, from eight‑year‑olds to high‑school seniors.
Camp organizers have designed a curriculum that blends fundamental skill work with strategic awareness and advanced skating techniques. Participants will rotate through drills that emphasize puck handling, positional play and on‑ice decision making, all under the supervision of experienced coaches and former professional players.
Coaching Vision and Community Impact
At the helm of the camp is Josh Sciba, the head coach of the Detroit PWHL team. Sciba recently concluded a stint as an assistant coach for the gold‑medal‑winning U.S. Olympic women’s hockey team, bringing international experience and a championship pedigree to the program.
Joining Sciba on the staff are 2026 PWHL draft prospect Casey Borgiel and former New York Sirens player Taylor Girard. Both assistants will provide on‑ice guidance, mentor campers, and help translate complex concepts into actionable feedback.
The camp’s schedule includes daily on‑ice sessions, off‑ice training modules and seminars on sportsmanship and team dynamics. Organizers anticipate that the intensive week will not only sharpen individual abilities but also foster a deeper appreciation for the sport among young athletes.
