New Jersey Devils general manager Sunny Mehta announced a series of front‑office and coaching appointments that could reshape the club’s approach to goaltending and player development.
Leo Luongo, brother of Hall‑of‑Fame netminder Roberto Luongo, is set to join the organization as director of goaltending, bringing a decade of experience from the Florida Panthers where he held a variety of scouting and development roles.
In his new capacity, Luongo will oversee the evaluation and progression of the Devils’ goalies, reporting directly to longtime Devils legend Martin Brodeur, who now serves in an advisory capacity.
The club also added veteran assistants Ted Granto and A.J. MacLean to the bench, while Dan Stewart will take on the role of goaltending coach, reinforcing the team’s depth behind the net.
The moves come as the Panthers look to fill the void left by several staff members and players who have opted to join the Devils, a shift that could alter the balance of power in the Metropolitan Division.
