A Shift in Philosophy
Indiana's basketball program is entering a new era under Coach Darian DeVries, who is moving away from the small, fast lineups that defined his first season. The change comes after a year in which the Hoosiers finished near 300th nationally in offensive rebound rate, a statistic that underscored difficulties on the glass and on defense.
To address those shortcomings, DeVries has turned to the transfer portal, securing the commitments of Aiden Sherrell, a 6‑foot‑9 forward who shot nearly 34 percent from three‑point range at Alabama, and Samet Yigitoglu, a rebounding specialist from Southern Methodist who was among the top offensive rebounders in the ACC. Both players bring a blend of size, shooting and hustle that could reshape the Hoosiers' identity.
The Challenge of Integration
DeVries acknowledges that the shift will require adjustments in practice and game planning, but he remains confident that the added physicality will translate into more second‑chance points and tighter defense. The success of the strategy will hinge on his ability to adapt his coaching style and effectively integrate the new players into the team.
