The 16th annual Darien Lake Tournament concluded with a flurry of excitement as the Diamond Dawgs posted a 3‑1 record, falling just short of the championship after a hard‑fought semifinal loss to the Lancaster Legends Red.
Friday night set the tone with a dominant 27‑0 victory over Glow Legion, a performance that showcased the Dawgs' offensive firepower.
Maxx Davis led the charge, going 5‑for‑5 with a double, five RBIs and five runs scored, while Collin Bragg contributed 2‑for‑3 with five RBIs and four runs, and Jackson Butzer added two hits and three RBIs.
Rylan Cambria, Caden Lacki and Greyson Whitfield joined Davis on the mound, combining for a four‑inning no‑hitter that yielded four strikeouts, underscoring the team's pitching depth.
Saturday morning saw the Dawgs rout Central Amherst 10‑0 in five innings, with Butzer, Lukas Youngberg and Whitfield each delivering key hits and RBIs, while Lacki and Jaxson Swanson teamed up for a one‑hitter with nine strikeouts.
In the afternoon, a seventh‑inning rally produced a 7‑6 win over Lou Gehrig Blue; a critical error opened the door for Butzer, and a wild pitch tied the game before Curtis Spielman's clutch single secured the victory.
The semifinal on Sunday proved tougher; Lancaster built a 6‑0 lead early and ultimately prevailed 12‑5, though the Dawgs managed singles from Youngberg, Whitfield, Spielman and Troutman.
Despite the loss, the team’s offensive consistency was evident, with multiple players posting multi‑hit games and driving in runs throughout the tournament.
