For nearly three decades the Diamonds‑N‑Dreams Baseball School has called Richmond, Michigan, its summer home, drawing more than 150 youngsters from across Macomb and St. Clair counties.
Over a two‑week stretch the camp blends three days of skill drills with two days of scrimmages and contests, giving participants a chance to test what they have learned on the field while being guided by high school and college players who once walked the same diamonds as campers.
Beyond the X’s and O’s the program weaves in lessons about dedication, accountability and the importance of staying clear of bullying, whether on the playing surface, in the classroom or in everyday life.
Among the alumni who have risen to the professional ranks is Scott Thorman, a former camper who eventually cracked the major leagues with the Atlanta Braves, a testament to the camp’s ability to nurture talent.
A Legacy of Mentorship
The blend of instruction and mentorship creates an environment where players not only sharpen their swings but also learn to lead, cooperate and respect one another, building character that extends far beyond the baseball diamond.
Camp director Scott Evans, who recently logged his 500th career varsity win and led Richmond High School to a 32‑3 season, says the event is as much about giving back to the community as it is about spotting the next generation of stars.
