Former NFL wide receiver DJ Chark returned to his hometown of Alexandria, Louisiana, this weekend to lead the third edition of his annual football camp at Alexandria Senior High School.
The three‑day camp gave dozens of local youths a chance to display their talents in front of coaches while undergoing NFL‑style combine drills, each participant receiving a commemorative T‑shirt and a lanyard to log their performance metrics.
Beyond the on‑field work, the event opened a marketplace for parents, who could browse booths staffed by mental‑health counselors, legal aid providers and financial‑planning services, turning the camp into a one‑stop resource fair for families.
A Vision Beyond the Game
Chark, who grew up playing on the same fields he now coaches, emphasized the importance of community support, saying the camp is as much about building futures off the gridiron as it is about perfecting routes and catches.
Organizers hope the model can be replicated in other parishes, using sport as a conduit to connect youth with mentors, scholarship opportunities and essential services that often lie beyond the stadium gates.
