Rushing’s Summer Camp Fuels Young Players’ Ambitions
Dalton Rushing, a catcher in his second season with the Los Angeles Dodgers, recently ran his second annual Youth Baseball Camp at Ralph Foy Park, drawing roughly 200 children between the ages of six and twelve. Rushing is known for his community involvement, and he used the platform to inspire youngsters while emphasizing vision and goal‑setting.
The camp was a joint effort between FlexWork Sports Management and Raising Cane’s, coordinated with the Burbank Parks and Recreation Department, and featured eight interactive stations that let the kids swing wiffle balls, track fly balls and practice bunting under the guidance of top coaches.
Anthony Harrison Jr., who serves as camp general for FlexWork, stressed the importance of building morale and confidence, noting that the experience is as much about personal growth as it is about baseball fundamentals.
Rushing, currently the backup to All‑Star catcher Will Smith, who has been sidelined by neck stiffness, brings his own blend of skill and perspective to the field, having appeared in 72 games this season with 11 home runs and a .257 average as the Dodgers sit atop the league standings.
Mark Gutierrez, a lifelong Dodgers fan and fellow camp organizer, highlighted the tangible benefits for participants, from exclusive T‑shirts and team photos to the rare chance to train directly with a major‑league player.
Beyond the drills, the camp’s overarching goal is to give youngsters a clear vision of what they can achieve, encouraging them to set goals and believe in their potential, a message that resonates both on and off the diamond.
