A Strategic Move for the Nittany Lions
Dom Ruggiero announced on Monday that he will continue his collegiate career at Penn State, where he will join the Nittany Lions’ pitching staff. The former Richmond right-hander will have four years of eligibility remaining, giving the program a durable arm for the foreseeable future.
During his freshman season at Richmond, Ruggiero appeared in 22 games, compiling 26.1 innings with a 3.76 S-ERA. His ability to limit runs while striking out batters made him a reliable option out of the bullpen.
The Richmond Spiders capped the year with a historic performance, securing 20 wins in Atlantic 10 conference play — the most since 2007 — and earning a berth in the league tournament.
Ruggiero’s contributions were recognized when he was named to the Atlantic 10 All-Rookie Team, a testament to his immediate impact in his first year of college baseball.
He will now link up with fellow transfer Bryce Clavon, who also chose Penn State as his next destination. The two pitchers join a growing transfer group that the coaching staff believes can elevate the program’s competitiveness.
Coaches and analysts alike see the addition of Ruggiero as a strategic boost, adding depth and experience to a rotation that aims to contend for Big Ten titles in the coming years.
