A Legacy Beyond the Court
Domantas Sabonis, a three‑time NBA All‑Star and former Gonzaga standout, announced a transformative gift that stands as the largest ever contribution by a former player to his alma mater. The donation will finance the new Sabonis Family Strength & Conditioning Center, a state‑of‑the‑art facility designed to serve both the men’s and women’s basketball programs.
The announcement came during a golf clinic hosted by the Boys and Girls Clubs of Spokane, where Sabonis took the opportunity to meet with Braden Huff, a young athlete who has battled a similar knee injury. The event highlighted the personal connections that have shaped Sabonis’s commitment to giving back.
Former teammate Kevin Pangos and Gonzaga head coach Mark Few were also present, underscoring the deep roots Sabonis maintains within the Bulldogs community. Their presence reflected the lasting impact of the program on his career.
In his remarks, Sabonis expressed profound gratitude for the university that launched his professional journey, emphasizing the values of hard work, dedication, and service. He described the gift as a way to invest in the next generation of student‑athletes who will carry forward the Bulldog legacy.
The new Strength & Conditioning Center will provide comprehensive resources for current and future players, supporting both athletic performance and academic success. While the primary focus is on the men’s team, the facility will also benefit the women’s basketball program, reflecting Sabonis’s belief in equity across the program.
Sabonis’s contribution marks a significant milestone in Gonzaga’s athletic history, promising enhanced training environments and reinforcing the university’s ambition to compete at the highest level. The gift is expected to have a lasting impact on the competitiveness and development of both basketball squads.
