Former Maryland football player Dontay Joyner has returned to the Terrapins ahead of the upcoming season opener, three years after a mutual parting with head coach Michael Locksley following a three‑year probation sentence for harassment and telephone misuse charges.
Coaching Staff Backs Joyner's Reintegration
During training camp, senior team leaders approached Locksley to discuss Joyner’s status, and after a unanimous discussion the staff concluded that his comeback would be positive and even life‑changing for the program.
Joyner, who began 12 games last season and recorded eight pass breakups and two interceptions, is slated to line up opposite Jamare Glasker in Maryland’s secondary, a pairing that could bolster the defense as the team prepares for its opener.
Beyond football, Maryland’s other programs posted notable victories: the volleyball squad swept Arkansas in four sets during the SEC/Big Ten Challenge, the lacrosse team secured a commitment from No. 2‑ranked 2028 midfielder Luca Diehl, and the women’s basketball program welcomed top‑ranked 2027 prospect Ivanna Wilson Manyacka on a campus visit. The men’s soccer team remains ranked among the top ten in the Big Ten, while former baseball infielder Brandon Lowe delivered a 4‑for‑6 performance with a home run and three runs for the Pirates.
