Douglass names Rodney Hill as new boys basketball coach

Former Auburn and Texas A&M assistant takes over from Steven Alexander, who guided the team to consecutive championships

A new era for Douglass basketball

Douglass, a longtime staple of Oklahoma high school basketball, has named Rodney Hill as its new head coach for the boys program, tapping a coach whose résumé includes stints as an assistant at both Auburn University and Texas A&M’s women’s teams.

Hill, who expressed enthusiasm about continuing the program’s upward trajectory, said he is eager to build on the foundation laid by his predecessor and to mentor the next generation of Trojans.

He replaces Steven Alexander, whose five‑year tenure produced back‑to‑back championships in 2023 and 2024 and culminated in a Class 4A state‑final appearance that ended in an 87‑58 loss to Cascia Hall.

School officials praised Alexander’s leadership, noting his 108‑28 record and his role in elevating the program’s profile, while also announcing that he will retain his position as Langston’s director of player development and recently added a head women’s assistant role.

The hiring comes as Douglass looks to maintain its competitive edge in a crowded regional landscape, with administrators confident that Hill’s blend of analytical insight and player development experience will keep the Trojans among the state’s elite.
