Dover’s parks have undergone a dramatic transformation after a city‑wide survey revealed that many residents were dissatisfied with the condition of recreational facilities.
In response, the municipality launched a capital improvements program that allocated more than $560,000 to resurface and upgrade basketball, tennis and pickleball courts across several neighborhoods.
Targeted upgrades at key sites
The work, which began in late February, focused on courts at Horne Street, Woodman Park, Applevale Park and Hancock Park, with basketball hoops at Horne Street, Woodman Park and Applevale Park completely rebuilt and the Woodman Park surface rotated 180 degrees and fitted with new safety borders.
Tennis courts at Horne Street and Woodman Park received crack repairs, while the pickleball facilities at Shaws Lane near Garrison Elementary School are slated for similar treatment, ensuring that players of all ages have modern, safe surfaces.
Community reaction
Early feedback has been overwhelmingly positive; social media posts and emails from locals celebrate the improvements, noting that the upgrades will provide better training grounds for high school teams and everyday players alike.
Although some courts still await final repainting and line marking, the city expects to complete those finishing touches within the next three weeks, bringing the project to a close on schedule.
