The Drake University men’s soccer program entered the 2026 season with momentum, landing second in the Missouri Valley Conference preseason poll and earning a solitary first-place vote from league coaches. The Bulldogs accumulated 40 points in the vote, signaling both respect and the challenge of overtaking the predicted leaders.
Adding to the optimism, Drake shared the 2025 MVC regular-season title with Evansville and Northern Illinois, a testament to the squad’s consistency. That achievement set the stage for another push toward the top of the conference.
A Promising Roster
The preseason accolades continued with four Bulldogs named to the 2026 All-MVC list. Goalkeeper Tomas Butkovic, defenders Sam DeLong and Cole Schrage, and forward Preston Kipnusu were recognized for their performances during the previous championship run, underscoring the team’s depth.
All four honorees return from last year’s title-contending side, giving the Bulldogs a blend of experience and fresh talent. Their presence also made Drake the most represented school on the All-MVC list, highlighting the program’s growing influence.
The season kicks off with a home matchup against Central Arkansas on Thursday at 7:30 p.m., a game that will also feature a double-header with the women’s soccer team against Iowa State. The early schedule offers a chance to translate preseason promise into early points on the board.
