A Star is Born in Rowan County
Drew Davis first captured regional attention as the starting catcher for the 2002 East Rowan American Legion team, a squad that finished the season with a staggering 43‑2 record and two notable winning streaks — 15 games and 28 games. That year he helped the team set all‑time marks with 166 hits, 35 doubles, 127 runs and 113 RBIs, numbers that still stand in the school’s history books.
Baseball America later named him the best defensive catcher in the Southern Conference, a distinction he earned twice, underscoring his reputation as a steady, game‑changing presence behind the plate.
From College to the Classroom
At Elon University Davis combined athletic talent with academic rigor, earning All‑Southern Conference second‑team honors as a sophomore after batting .351 with six home runs and 51 RBIs, and adding a .327 average with three homers and 44 RBIs as a junior. A shoulder injury early in his senior year triggered a medical redshirt, allowing him to return in 2007 and post a .361 average with 16 doubles and 35 RBIs, cementing his place among the program’s top ten in games, hits, RBIs, doubles and total bases.
Beyond the box score, Davis graduated with degrees in accounting and business administration, later completing a Master of Accounting at NC State and becoming a Certified Public Accountant. His analytical mindset, honed on the field and in the classroom, now informs his professional work as a CPA.
A Legacy That Endures
The Salisbury‑Rowan Hall of Fame will feature Davis on its ballot for the first time in 2027, a testament to a career that has inspired teammates and younger players alike. He remains connected to his roots, often recalling the camaraderie of the 2002 class that included Bobby Parnell, Cal Hayes Jr., Nick Lefko and Julian Sides, all of whom helped shape a generation of local talent.
