Drexel University’s men’s soccer program is gearing up for the 2026 season with a decisive infusion of talent.
The roster will welcome twelve newcomers, comprising four freshmen and eight upperclassmen, all selected for their alignment with the team’s vision and standards.
A Strategic Mix of Youth and Experience
Central to the recruitment strategy is a focus on local talent, with several standout players hailing from Pennsylvania and neighboring states.
Among them, Daniel Frye of Doylestown, a four‑year varsity star and 2023 Pennsylvania All‑State selection, brings a proven track record of excellence.
Brendan Welsh from Warrington, a First‑Team All‑Catholic League honoree, adds offensive firepower, while Eddie Davis, a 16‑year varsity veteran from Kirkland, Washington, bolsters the defensive line.
Goalkeeper Peter Punchello of Jamison, who topped the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference in save percentage and shutouts, is expected to anchor the backline.
The class also features international prospects such as Gustavo Santana, a São Paulo native who excelled at Mercersburg Academy, and Daniel Celso, a Porto‑born midfielder who captured national under‑19 honors in Portugal.
Additional global contributors include Sharif Mohammed from Port St. Lucie, Florida, who earned All‑Conference recognition at West Texas A&M, and Tomislav Vrdoljak of Frankfurt, Germany, a key figure in Siena University’s MAAC Championship run.
The squad’s diversity extends to Aamir Ketbache and Mekhi Wright, both German‑trained players with experience on national youth teams, as well as Ignacio Alberola, a Spanish defender who posted shutout performances at Augustana College.
Completing the cohort, Jose Levy Lanando, a Mexican goalkeeping specialist with four years of varsity experience and state championships at NSU University School, rounds out a well‑balanced lineup.
Drexel’s opening match is scheduled for August 20 against Robert Morris, a contest that will serve as the first test of the new roster’s cohesion.
Coaches say the blend of home‑grown grit and overseas flair reflects a deliberate effort to build a program that competes at the highest level while staying true to its core values.
