The Dublin‑Laurens County Recreation Authority‑Legacy Sports has been awarded the hosting rights for the 2028 Diamond Youth Baseball World Series, a two‑week event that will feature 72 teams from across the Southeast and is projected to generate an economic impact of over $2 million for Dublin, Georgia.
A milestone for Dublin’s sports landscape
The tournament marks the first time since 2008 that a Georgia city will host the Diamond Youth Baseball World Series, underscoring the region’s growing reputation as a youth baseball hub and highlighting the community’s long‑term commitment to the sport.
A delegation led by board chairman Jack Walker, executive director Brian Mallette, and community partners Tracie Morgan, Eli Floyd and Casey Cullen traveled to Laurel, Mississippi, to make the final pitch before a July 31 vote.
During a July 29 presentation, the group highlighted Southern Pines as a key factor in the decision, citing its facilities and the surrounding attractions that can accommodate visiting families.
Local officials noted that nearby amenities such as a water park and downtown dining options will draw spectators and participants, creating a vibrant atmosphere for the games.
Economic promise for local businesses
Miriam Lewis, executive director of Visit Dublin GA, said the influx of visitors is expected to generate more than $2 million in revenue for restaurants, shops and hotels, and she hopes the exposure will encourage many families to return to Dublin in the future.
