Yet the program’s history is marked by periods of sustained failure; since 1996 Duke has endured four winless campaigns, including a single victory in both the 2005 and 2007 seasons, and managed only ten wins between 2000 and 2007.
Duke’s overall ledger sits at 555‑565‑31, and while the team has added nine bowl victories to a nine‑game bowl record, it has never captured a claimed national championship.

The Road Ahead
Coach Manny Diaz, now in his second year at the helm, has posted an 18‑9 record and even guided the team to an ACC championship last season, suggesting a turnaround is underway.
However, the squad suffered a blow when quarterback Darian Mensah and wide receiver Cooper Barkate transferred to rival Miami, a move that could force Duke to take a step back in 2026 and possibly miss a bowl game.
Despite the setback, Diaz remains a strong developer, and with an aggressive push in the transfer portal before the next season, the Blue Devils could be poised to contend for another ACC title in 2027.
