Duke Women’s Soccer Secures Commitment from Japanese Midfielder Yuna Marui

International Experience Adds Depth to Blue Devils Roster

Duke University’s women’s soccer program has added a promising new piece to its roster, announcing the signing of Yuna Marui, a 5‑3 midfielder whose international résumé spans multiple continents and age‑group tournaments.

A Global Talent Joins the Blue Devils

Marui’s journey began in Osaka, Japan, where she honed her craft with the Cerezo Osaka Yanmar Ladies in the WE League, Japan’s top professional division, before moving to the United States to pursue her collegiate career.

Her development was marked by a series of standout performances with Japan’s national youth teams, including a pivotal role in the 2022 FIFA U‑17 Women’s World Cup in India, where the squad advanced to the quarterfinals.

Over the past few seasons she has also contested the Plenus Nadeshiko League (Division I) and the Plenus Challenge League, accumulating experience that coaches say blends technical skill with tactical maturity.

'Yuna brings a wealth of high‑level experience and a relentless work ethic,' said Kieran Hall, Duke’s head coach. 'Her background in Japan’s elite leagues and her success on the world stage will enrich our squad both on and off the field.'

The addition of Marui is expected to deepen Duke’s midfield options and provide a veteran presence as the Blue Devils aim to contend for conference titles and NCAA tournament berths in the upcoming season.
