A New Era of Blue Devil Recruiting
Duke University is intensifying its hunt for the 2027 and 2028 men’s basketball recruiting class, already boasting eight of ESPN’s top‑10 prospects on its offer sheet.
Among those prospects, Beckham Black, a 6‑foot‑3 point guard from Southeastern Prep Academy in Florida, has emerged as the most coveted recruit. Black’s recent performance at the FIBA U17 World Cup, where he helped Team USA capture gold, showcased a dramatic rise in both playmaking and shooting. He averaged eight assists while turning the ball over only once, and his three‑point percentage climbed from 28 % to 36 % under heightened defensive pressure.
Duke is competing for Black’s official visit alongside traditional powerhouses such as UNC, Kentucky and Louisville, while the Blue Devils also eye other elite talents including DeMarcus Henry of Compass Prep, AJ Williams from Eagle’s Landing Christian Academy, and Asa Montgomery of Hillgrove High School.
Montgomery has already locked in a visit that will begin on October 2, marking the first official trip of the cycle for the Blue Devils. Williams, who toured Duke’s facilities in August before receiving an offer from head coach Jon Scheyer in June, adds another layer of intrigue to the recruitment narrative.
The list of undecided targets expands to include Lewis Uvwo of Prolific Prep, Yann Kamagate from St. Francis High School, Colton Hiller at Coatesville Area High School, Adan Diggs of Millennium High School, and Deng Ngor, who will travel to Durham in mid‑October from Fort Erie International Academy in Ontario, Canada.
Kager Knueppel, a newly minted five‑star power forward from Wisconsin Lutheran High School, committed to Duke in June and sits at No. 15 overall on the 247Sports 2027 Composite. Under Jon Scheyer’s leadership, Duke has finished either No. 1 or No. 2 nationally in the past five recruiting cycles, a streak the program hopes to extend.
Recruiting analyst Paul Biancardi has ranked Black No. 1 in his top‑25 list, underscoring the Blue Devils’ appeal, while insider Joe Tipton notes the strategic importance of securing these commitments for the program’s future.
