Dustin Smith Exits Clarksville Academy for Kentucky Coaching Role

After seven seasons and three region titles, the coach joins the newly formed Christian County High School

A Coach on the Move

Dustin Smith has stepped down from his role as baseball coach at Clarksville Academy to accept the same position at Christian County High School in Hopkinsville, Kentucky.

The move comes after a seven‑year tenure in which Smith compiled a 147‑win record, captured three TSSAA region championships and earned the 2025 Leaf‑Chronicle Coach of the Year honor after guiding the Cougars to a 30‑12 season and a Division II‑A state runner‑up finish.

From Player to Mentor

Before turning to coaching, Smith honed his baseball skills in the Detroit Tigers' minor league system and began his career on the sidelines at his alma mater before joining Clarksville Academy in 2006.

He later served two years as an assistant under Jake Peterson, helping the program reach a region championship in 2017 before the team posted an 11‑19 record this season and exited the DII‑A Middle Region tournament in the first round.

A New Era for Christian County

Christian County High School will open this fall following the consolidation of the former Christian County High School and Hopkinsville High School, a transition that Smith will help shape as he brings his experience to the new program.

The hiring underscores a continued emphasis on building competitive baseball programs in the region, with Smith poised to apply his proven leadership to a fresh talent pool.
