Dylan Golightly Commits to Northeastern State, Eyes Cherokee Representation and Pediatric Career

The former Jenks High School star discusses cultural affinity, athletic ambitions, and future in medicine

Former Jenks High School basketball standout Dylan Golightly has officially signed with Northeastern State University in Tahlequah, Oklahoma, bringing to a close a highly anticipated recruitment that highlighted his versatility on the court and his deep ties to the Cherokee Nation.

Cultural Roots and Athletic Vision

During his senior season he averaged just above 18 points per game, helping Seminole State College rebound from a 6‑23 record to two consecutive 20‑win campaigns. Golightly praised the NSU coaching staff for their personal approach, noting that the program’s emphasis on development resonated with his own goals.

He describes himself as a versatile player with strong defensive skills and a reliable shooting touch, attributes that attracted attention from multiple programs before he chose NSU for its proximity and cultural familiarity.

Future in Medicine

Off the hardwood, Golightly plans to pursue a career as a physician assistant specializing in pediatrics. He credits his Cherokee grandfather with instilling principles of integrity and perseverance, values that now guide his ambition to serve children’s health.

Beyond personal achievement, he hopes to serve as a positive representation of the Cherokee Nation, inspiring younger players to believe they can excel both athletically and academically.
