Dylan Hull, a recent graduate of Soquel High School in Santa Cruz County, has officially committed to the UC Davis baseball program, marking a significant milestone in his young career.
At Soquel High, Hull distinguished himself as a right‑handed pitcher with a 3.94 cumulative GPA, a 3‑1 record and a 2.15 ERA over 45.2 innings last season, and he helped the Knights reach the Central Coast Section Division I championship game and the CIF NorCal Regional playoffs for the first time in program history.
His performance at a UC Davis camp caught the attention of head coach Tommy Nicholson and assistants Andrew Ayers and Sky Valenzuela, who offered him a spot on the NCAA Division I roster.
Coaching Staff Praises Hull’s Arsenal
Hull’s repertoire includes a fastball, cutter, curveball and splitter, skills that impressed Nicholson and the coaching staff during his camp showing.
The young pitcher plans to major in environmental science or economics, reflecting a strong academic focus alongside his athletic ambitions.
Hull will train alongside fellow recruit Joey Raffo, his longtime pitching partner, as they embark on their college baseball journeys together.
The Aggies are in the midst of transitioning from the Big West Conference to the Mountain West Conference, a move that adds a fresh competitive context to Hull’s arrival.
Matt Rossignol, who helped connect Hull with UC Davis, expressed enthusiasm about the new addition, while teammates and coaches alike look forward to seeing how his skills will develop under Zack Thornton, the program’s pitching coach with minor‑league and Sac State experience.
