Boston College’s field hockey squad opened the 2026 season with a decisive 3‑1 victory over Providence on Saturday afternoon at the Newton Field Hockey Complex. The win marked the Eagles’ first triumph of the campaign and gave the team a early boost as they look to build momentum.
A Promising Start
The Eagles entered the match with a 1‑0 record, while Providence sought to rebound from a 0‑1 start. Early in the fourth quarter, Alex De Cain converted a penalty corner to put Boston College ahead, only for the Friars to answer with a penalty stroke that tied the game at 1‑1.
Klara Mueffelmann then took control, striking twice in the closing minutes. Her first goal came on an open‑net opportunity, and she added a second marker that sealed the 3‑1 result, showcasing the team’s depth and attacking flair.
The victory sets the stage for the upcoming ACC/Big Ten Challenge, a three‑day slate of games against Maryland, Northwestern and Duke scheduled for early September. The Eagles will host Maryland on Friday, September 4, at 6 p.m. local time before traveling to face Northwestern and Duke in the following days.
