East Hampton Flag Football Seniors Close a Milestone Season

Four seniors reflect on their final home game, future plans, and the program’s bright outlook.

East Hampton’s flag football team gathered on a crisp May afternoon to honor its four senior players in what would become their final home contest, a hard‑fought loss to Comsewogue that ended 33‑27 but still marked the program’s most victorious season to date.

A Senior Class to Remember

Head coach Erin Gillott, who has watched the group grow since the program’s inception four years ago, described the class as “small but mighty,” highlighting their toughness, energy, leadership and humor as the hallmarks of a squad that helped the team finish 3‑8 overall while setting a new win record.

Each senior took a moment to share the memories that defined their careers and the paths they plan to follow. Mary Jo Corron, headed to SUNY Binghamton to study biological sciences, recalled a touching instant when an opponent paused to tie her shoe on the field. Abby Boerem, bound for the Wentworth Institute of Technology to pursue mechanical engineering, said her favorite moments included scoring her first touchdown and winning an overtime thriller. Denisse Vinansaca, who will study criminology or nursing at Suffolk Community College, admitted that choosing a single favorite memory was impossible given the countless highlights. Evie Geehreng, off to the University of Miami for marine biology, smiled while remembering her first season playing alongside her cousin Ava.

Junior Mia Marin punctuated the game with an 80‑yard pick‑six, a flash of brilliance that underscored the team’s defensive spark. The performance capped a season that, despite the final loss, delivered the most wins in program history and left a lasting impression on teammates and fans alike.

As the seniors prepare to move on to college and beyond, the future of East Hampton flag football appears bright. The program, now in its fifth year and expanded to include a junior varsity side, will build on the foundation laid by a class that proved a modest roster can achieve great things.
