A Nail-Biter at Muzzy Field
The Bristol Eastern baseball squad clinched an 8-7 victory over Rockville in extra innings, improving their season record to 9-10 while dropping the visiting Rockville team to 6-14.
Rockville struck first, plating two runs in the opening frame and adding three more in the second before Eastern answered with a six-run burst in the bottom of the first, turning the tide early in the game.
The contest remained tightly contested, with both sides trading blows until the sixth inning when Eastern tied the game at 7-7, setting the stage for a dramatic finish.
In the bottom of the eighth, a wild pitch by Eli Emmert allowed Braden Guarda, who had opened the inning with a single and stolen second, to cross the plate with the winning run, sealing the triumph.
Key contributors for Eastern included Dennis Espinal, who finished with four hits and three RBI, and Dustyn Cumagun, whose two-run double and single added crucial runs, while Noah Molinsky’s intentional walk loaded the bases and set up the decisive play.
The Lancers are slated to host Wethersfield in a 3:45 p.m. showdown at Muzzy Field on Friday, looking to build momentum from the hard-fought win.
