The Eastern Illinois women's soccer team will begin its 2026 campaign at home on August 13, hosting Valparaiso at Lakeside Field in Charleston, Ill. It marks the first home opener for the Panthers since the 2022 season, setting the stage for a schedule that includes a return trip to Chicago to face UIC just three days later.
A fresh start for the Panthers
The matchup with Valparaiso is the fourth time the two programs have opened a season against each other, and the 2023 encounter ended with a 2-1 victory for the Crusaders. This year the Panthers hope to reverse that result and avoid a pattern that has plagued them in recent season openers, a stretch that reads 0-6-2 over the last eight contests.
Four EIU players earned All-Ohio Valley Conference honors in 2025, highlighted by goalkeeper Ella Kratochvil, who was named OVC Goalkeeper of the Year and placed on the first‑team All‑OVC roster. Joining her on the conference’s watch list are Alex Tetteh, Colleen Bauer and Camylle Graves, while newcomers Abby Reinl and Brooklynn Greene have been tabbed as players to watch for the upcoming season.
The roster also welcomes a wave of fresh talent, including four freshmen and a transfer goalkeeper, adding depth to a squad that posted 17 goals and 15 assists in 2025. Coach Dirk Bennett, now in his fourth year at the helm, brings a career record of 17‑25‑13 and has guided the team to OVC Tournament appearances in each of his previous three seasons.
Honoring past triumphs
Eastern Illinois was projected second in the OVC behind Lindenwood, a positioning that fuels the team’s ambition to climb the conference ladder and break the streak of early‑season defeats. The program also celebrates a historic milestone, as the 2001 women’s soccer team will be inducted into the 2026 Athletic Hall of Fame, linking past excellence with present aspirations.
The upcoming induction of the 2001 squad not only commemorates a landmark achievement but also serves as a rallying point for current players, reminding them of the program’s tradition of competitive spirit and community impact.
