Eastern Michigan University’s baseball program has been recognized with the American Baseball Coaches Association Team Academic Award for the 2025‑26 season, underscoring a remarkable blend of athletic and scholarly achievement.
The honor is reserved for teams that meet strict academic standards, including a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 and a head coach who holds active membership in the ABCA. The Eagles surpassed the benchmark, posting a collective 3.545 GPA that places them well above the required threshold.
Eligibility and nomination process
Eligibility also required that programs be either high school or college teams with a current ABCA‑registered head coach, and nominations had to be submitted before the July 17 deadline, a process that the Eagles’ staff completed promptly.
The academic distinction is complemented by individual recognitions: eleven players earned Academic All‑MAC honors, each maintaining a GPA above 3.20, while five teammates, including senior pitcher John Carmichael, secured spots on the College Sports Communicators Academic All‑District list.
John Carmichael’s standout season
Carmichael’s performance on the mound was equally impressive, as he posted a perfect 4.00 GPA and limited opponents to just three runs over his final 21.2 innings, reflecting a focus that spanned both the classroom and the competition.
Beyond individual accolades, the team posted the highest semester GPAs among all Eastern Michigan men’s programs, recording a 3.580 in the fall and a 3.481 in the winter, culminating in a cumulative 3.545 — the best cumulative figure for any EMU men’s sport.
