A Season of Scholarship
Eastern Michigan University’s women’s basketball program has been recognized by the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association for its academic excellence, earning a WBCA Academic Top‑25 Special Mention for the 2025‑26 season. The team placed 50th nationally among 362 Division I programs, posting a cumulative GPA of 3.585.
The achievement reflects a consistent academic trajectory: a 3.645 GPA during the fall semester of 2025 and a 3.572 GPA in the subsequent winter term. Ten Eagles posted GPAs above 3.0, and four maintained perfect 4.0 records, underscoring the program’s blend of athletic and scholarly commitment.
Individual honors followed, with former Eagles Sisi Eleko and Brooklyn Thrash earning Academic All‑MAC distinctions. Additionally, Ainhoa Cea and Fernanda Ovalle were selected to the College Sports Communicators Academic All‑District team, highlighting the roster’s depth of talent both on the hardwood and in the classroom.
When compared with peer institutions, Eastern Michigan’s academic standing aligns with a national trend of programs prioritizing scholarship. Green Bay leads Division I with a 3.965 team GPA, while Mercy tops Division II at 3.853, Nebraska Wesleyan dominates Division III with 3.897, and Bethel holds the NAIA crown at 3.829. Such benchmarks illustrate a competitive environment where academic metrics are as valued as on‑court performance.
Looking ahead, the Eagles are slated to open the 2026‑27 campaign at home against the Appalachian State Mountaineers in the MAC‑SBC Challenge, a matchup that will test both their competitive spirit and the academic standards they continue to uphold.
