Their bronze‑medal finish marked the province’s highest placement in the competition’s history and sparked celebration among players, coaches and alumni.
After an opening defeat to Boland, the team regrouped and fought through the knockout stages, ultimately meeting their rivals again in a tense bronze‑medal playoff. A dramatic penalty shootout decided the outcome, with Eastern Province emerging victorious and securing third place on the podium.
Building on Preparation and Identity
Coach Andrew Beynon, who has guided the side for several seasons, explained that the team’s resurgence stemmed from meticulous preparation and a clear tactical identity. He emphasized the importance of committing to an attacking style of hockey, both on the field and in the locker room, and praised the players’ dedication to those principles.
