A Season of Accolades
The East Carolina University baseball program has once again been honored with the American Baseball Coaches Association Team Academic Excellence Award, marking the eleventh straight year the Pirates have received this distinction.
During the 2026 campaign the team captured the regular‑season conference title and secured its second consecutive American Conference Tournament championship, underscoring the program’s competitive resurgence.
Academic Excellence Recognized
To qualify for the award, programs had to be led by a current ABCA member coach and maintain a cumulative team GPA of at least 3.0 for the 2025‑26 academic year. ECU’s squad posted a 3.72 GPA, tying the program’s best mark set the previous season.
The achievement is part of a broader pattern of academic distinction. Since the fall of 2017 the team has averaged more than a 3.40 GPA, with the last four seasons hovering above 3.50, and the program has earned ten straight American Conference Team Academic Excellence Awards.
Under Coach Godwin, the Pirates have also placed over 400 student‑athletes on the East Carolina Director of Athletics Honor Roll, reflecting a culture that values both scholarship and sport.
The recognition extends beyond the team, as eight former Pirates have earned College Sports Communicators Academic All‑America honors since 2016, a testament to the program’s sustained excellence.
The American Baseball Coaches Association, a long‑standing advocate for coaching and player development, continues to celebrate these dual achievements, reinforcing the link between competitive success and academic rigor.
