The Detroit Red Wings selected him 44th overall in the 2025 draft, impressed by a blend of physicality and a knack for scoring in high‑danger areas. His reputation as a disruptive force was cemented when he delivered a memorable open‑ice hit on Anton Johansson of Leksand during the SHL season, a moment that illustrated how his body checks can shift momentum.
Beyond the hits, Genborg’s offensive contributions were notable. He posted nine goals and ranked third in scoring for Timra in Sweden’s SHL, accumulating 25 points over the campaign. That performance helped Sweden capture gold at the IIHF World Junior Championship, where his ability to find the net in tight spaces drew praise from teammates and coaches alike.
The Red Wings have highlighted his capacity to score in “dirty areas” and to dominate puck battles, traits they view as essential for a team seeking a more physical identity.
