Matt Wadsworth, the longtime leader of Edgewood’s boys basketball program, announced that he will step down as head coach to take over the Hauser Jets, a move that marks a significant shift for both schools.
A New Era for the Jets
Wadsworth spent seven seasons at Edgewood, during which he rebuilt a program that had struggled for years, guiding the team to four winning campaigns and bringing stability after the COVID‑19 disruptions.
He succeeds Trent Moorhead, who in the past two seasons led Hauser to a semi‑state appearance, and brings with him a coaching résumé that includes stops at Riverton Parke, North Posey and Whiteland, where he amassed a career record of 229‑215.
The transition was highlighted by Edgewood athletic director Jerry Bland, who emphasized that the school will launch a nationwide search for a new coach and aims to have a replacement in place by June, ensuring continuity for the youth pipeline.
Wadsworth’s move also reverberates through the local coaching network; his former assistant Brad Moorhead, now heading South Ripley, previously served under him at Edgewood, while Nate Cangany, who replaced Wadsworth at Whiteland in 2019, is among the names circulating in the conversation.
The shake‑up reflects a broader trend of experienced mentors swapping programs, a pattern that has seen several Indiana high‑school basketball powerhouses rotate leadership in recent years.
As Edgewood begins its recruitment drive, the community watches closely, hopeful that the next coach will continue the momentum Wadsworth established and keep the Eagles competitive in the increasingly competitive landscape.
