Eighth‑Grader Samaj Daniel Secures Spot on USA World Baseball Classic Team

A Menifee Valley Middle School standout balances perfect grades, community service, and athletics ahead of an international tour in Italy

Samaj Daniel, an eighth‑grader at Menifee Valley Middle School, has earned a place on the United States roster for the World Baseball Classic, a milestone that will see him board a plane to Italy this July. The selection reflects not only his pitching talent but also the discipline he has cultivated on and off the field.

His academic record is flawless, a 4.0 GPA maintained across three years of middle school, and he has been honored with the Presidential Educational Award and the Golden Pyramid Scholar Award, the latter recognizing top students in San Diego, Orange and Riverside counties.

Beyond scholarship and sport, Daniel has contributed more than a thousand hours of community service, volunteering with organizations such as the March of Dimes and other local non‑profits, demonstrating a commitment to giving back.

Mentors and Community Response

Coach Fernando A. Meza, who also serves as campus supervisor at the school, praised Daniel’s relentless work ethic and his ability to inspire teammates. MUSD Governing Board President J. Kyle Root added that seeing a local student represent the district on a global stage fills the community with pride.

A Journey to Italy

The upcoming tour will pit the young athlete against international competition, and Daniel says he is eager to learn from the experience while carrying the hopes of his teachers, coaches and neighbors. He credits his faith and the steady support of his mentors for helping him reach this point.
