Khaled El‑Ahmad, a veteran of more than twenty years in professional soccer, has moved from Minnesota United FC to Austin FC, where he will serve as chief soccer officer and sporting director.
In his new capacity he will shape the club’s roster construction, scouting operations, player development pathways and the integration of academy talent into the first team.
El‑Ahmad arrives with a résumé that spans leagues in Europe, the Middle East and the City Football Group ecosystem, bringing a global perspective to the Western Conference side.
A Strategic Shift in Austin’s Front Office
Austin FC, currently sitting 14th in the Western Conference with 21 points, hope the appointment will tighten the gap between coaching philosophy and on‑field execution.
He will report directly to CEO Andy Loughnane and work side‑by‑side with newly appointed head coach Jim Curtin to forge a unified sporting vision.
Club chairman Anthony Precott praised El‑Ahmad’s blend of experience and forward‑thinking approach, saying the hire reflects a commitment to building a sustainable, data‑driven culture.
The transition at Minnesota United is being overseen by Hank Stebbins, who will act as interim sporting director until the conclusion of Austin FC’s 2026 MLS season.
Stebbins, who already leads recruitment, roster strategy and data analytics for the Loons, will continue to collaborate with head coach Cameron Knowles as the club seeks to improve its 10th‑place standing with 28 points.
