Elise Woodward, a veteran sideline reporter who has spent more than two decades covering Washington football, is set to step into the broadcast booth as the team’s new radio play‑by‑play announcer.
A Milestone in the Booth
Her first game in the role will air on September 6, where she will be paired with analyst Cameron Cleeland, marking the start of a new era for Husky football broadcasts.
Woodward makes history as the first woman to call a Washington football game on play‑by‑play, having previously filled in for two Husky contests in 2021.
Her broadcasting journey began with the Seattle Storm, where she spent 16 seasons alongside veteran Dick Fain, and later expanded to the Pac‑12 Network and the Big Ten Network before joining the expansion Portland Fire as their inaugural play‑by‑play voice.
In addition to her new Husky responsibilities, Woodward will continue to serve as the play‑by‑play announcer for the Portland Fire in the WNBA, a role that will require her to juggle multiple assignments, including a demanding stretch of three broadcasts within a single 72‑hour window in September.
The transition follows the departure of longtime voice Tony Castricone, who left the position to become the radio voice of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, opening the door for Woodward’s ascent.
