North Carolina Tar Heels coach Michael Malone has secured an official visit from one of the nation’s most coveted 2027 prospects, Asa Montgomery, a 6‑foot‑7 wing from Atlanta, who will headline an eight‑school tour beginning Aug. 28.
Montgomery arrives after a standout season in the EYCL where he posted 27.9 points per game on 54 % shooting, pulling down 10.2 rebounds and adding 3.3 combined steals and blocks per contest. His performance at the Peach Jam earned him a scholarship offer from UNC last month, confirming the interest of head coach Michael Malone.
The visit is part of an eight‑school swing that began on Aug. 28 and will take him to LSU, Florida, UConn, Providence, Duke, Arizona and Louisville before he returns to Chapel Hill on Sept. 25. The stop in Chapel Hill marks the second fall official visit for UNC, following Darius Wabbington’s scheduled trip in late October.
A Recruiting Ripple
Alongside Montgomery, UNC is also courting versatile forwards Demarcus Henry and AJ Williams, both of whom share the Tar Heels’ interest as primary targets for the 2027 class.
Coach Malone has emphasized the need for players who can stretch the floor and defend multiple positions, a philosophy that aligns with Montgomery’s skill set. The coaching staff’s early outreach to 13 prospects underscores a strategic push to shape the next generation of Tar Heels talent.
The commitment of Montgomery would not only bolster the roster but also signal a continued emphasis on recruiting elite talent from the Southeast and beyond. Fans and analysts alike are watching closely as the recruitment cycle unfolds, aware that each official visit can tip the balance in UNC’s quest for a championship‑contending class.
