A Strategic Return
Elliot Cadeau is set to don the Michigan jersey once again for the 2026‑27 campaign, giving the Wolverines a proven playmaker who already proved his mettle in the NCAA Tournament. He averaged 12.3 points, 7.5 assists and 1.7 steals while shooting 38.7% from three‑point range during the Wolverines' run, underscoring his growth as a floor‑general.
The team will also have to navigate the loss of backup point guard LJ Cason, who suffered a torn ACL on Feb. 27, opening the door for younger guards to step up. Among those eligible to return is Trey McKenney, whose standout freshman season earned him a fifth‑year option and adds depth at the guard position.
Adding to the mix, Tennessee transfer JP Estrella brings a versatile skill set, capable of operating at both forward and center. He posted 10 points and 5.4 rebounds on 59.6% shooting in just 18.3 minutes last season and converted at a 60% clip in post‑up situations, giving Michigan a dynamic option in the paint.
What Lies Ahead
Meanwhile, the future of big men remains unsettled. Aday Mara is projected as a lottery pick at No. 12 by the Oklahoma City Thunder, while forward Morez Johnson Jr. is still weighing whether to stay in the draft or return to school. Coach Dusty May, who guided the Wolverines to a strong finish, will have to balance these moving parts as the roster takes shape ahead of the next season.
