The University of Hawaii at Hilo has named Elliott Cribby its fourth head coach in program history, installing the Redmond, Washington native at the helm of the Vulcan baseball program and replacing interim coach Garett Yukumoto.
A Coach With Deep Division I Roots
Cribby brings more than ten years of experience as a Division I assistant, having contributed to staffs at Abilene Christian University, Seattle University, Purdue University, the University of Washington and the University of the Pacific. He also guided Eastlake High School to two successful seasons as head coach, a stint that included a 2008 matchup against Hilo and a 2006 appearance in the Rainbow Baseball Tournament against UH Manoa.
His recruiting acumen is reflected in the development of 58 players who have earned MLB draft selections, among them Aiva Arquette, a standout talent who entered the draft after a distinguished college career.
Program History and Recent Challenges
The Vulcans’ recent on‑field narrative shows a program in transition; their last overall winning season was recorded in 2023, and the most recent winning conference campaign dates back to 2021. Yukumoto, who served as interim coach for the 2026 season, leaves after establishing himself as the winningest coach in Hawaii Pacific University history with 362 victories.
Cribby’s vision centers on honoring the program’s traditions while pushing for competitive excellence. His first collegiate head‑coaching assignment will commence in the 2027 season, a timeline he believes will allow sufficient time to build a roster capable of contending for championships.
Beyond wins and losses, Cribby emphasizes the development of exceptional young men, aiming to shape players who excel both on the diamond and in their personal growth.
