A Record‑Breaking Season
Emerson Burke, a junior at Naperville Central High School, has been named the 2026 Illinois Gatorade Girls Soccer Player of the Year, a distinction that highlights her dominant performance on the field.
She finished the season with a school‑record 40 goals and added 17 assists, helping the Rockets advance to the state championship match, where they fell just short of the title.
Beyond her athletic prowess, Burke maintains a 4.3 GPA and devotes time to volunteering with the Veterans’ Club, embodying the award’s emphasis on leadership and character.
Her family ties run deep in the local sports scene; her mother, Tamara Burke, serves as the head coach of the school’s badminton team, while her older sister, Ella Burke, competes collegiately at the University of Cincinnati.
Burke will graduate early and begin her collegiate career at the University of Michigan in January, where she hopes to continue blending academic excellence with top‑level soccer.
