Former Real Madrid striker Emilio Butragueño and Sanitas Foundation executive Yolanda Erburu visited the XVII Inclusive Basketball Campus at Ciudad Real Madrid, a program that brings together youngsters aged eight to seventeen, both with and without physical disabilities, to play basketball on foot and in wheelchairs.
The camp, organized by the Real Madrid Foundation and supported by the Sanitas Foundation, uses sport as a vehicle for teaching technical and tactical skills while instilling principles of respect, effort, autonomy and teamwork.
During their visit, Butragueño and Erburu watched drills, interacted with participants and highlighted how the initiative reflects the foundation’s broader mission of fostering inclusion through diverse sporting projects.
Butragueño emphasized that the campus exemplifies the foundation’s commitment to using athletics as a tool for education and social integration, noting that the experience underscores the power of shared effort on the court.
Erburu added that the program embodies an open society where every individual finds a place, reinforcing the partnership’s dedication to inclusive sports throughout the year.
A Shared Vision of Inclusion
The collaboration between the Real Madrid Foundation and the Sanitas Foundation extends beyond this camp, encompassing inclusive football and basketball schools that run during the academic year, aiming to embed accessibility into everyday sporting opportunities.
By combining resources and expertise, the two organizations illustrate how public‑private partnerships can amplify impact, offering a model that other institutions may follow to promote diversity and social cohesion through sport.
