Emily Urban, a senior defender from Kimberly, Wisconsin, was recently crowned the Post‑Crescent girls soccer player of the year, capping a high school career that blended elite defense with championship success on the basketball court.
A Career Defined by Defense and Determination
She helped the Papermakers reach the Division 1 state semifinals this season and was a first‑team Wisconsin Soccer Coaches Association all‑state selection, while also contributing to a Kimberly girls basketball team that captured a state title.
Coach Andrew Sutton praised Urban as a dynamic and tough competitor, noting that her coordination and defensive instincts made her a cornerstone of the team’s back line.
Urban, who will play soccer for UW‑Milwaukee next fall, reflected on the friendships she forged with talented teammates and the joy of competing in multiple state tournaments across both sports.
She said soccer appealed to her after watching her older brother play, and she chose to specialize as a center back because she loves the challenge of stopping opponents in their tracks.
